A Republican senator is calling for the four Democrats who are still in the presidential race to recuse themselves from the upcoming Senate impeachment trial.

Pointing out their «unparalleled political interest in seeing this President removed from office,» Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee released a statement calling for the recusal from the quartet who would greatly benefit from not having to face a powerful incumbent. Blackburn wants Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar and Michael Bennett to do the honorable thing, admit their extreme bias and withdraw from the trial. While Klobucar and Bennett have zero chance of winning the nomination, both Sanders and Warren have repeatedly attacked President Trump as a racist, a Russian pawn and have openly advocated for his removal long before the articles of impeachment were voted on.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said on Wednesday that Democratic senators running for the party’s 2020 nomination should recuse themselves from taking part in President Trump’s impeachment trial.

“Tomorrow, one hundred United States Senators will be sworn in to serve in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Four of those Senators must recuse themselves for their unparalleled political interest in seeing this President removed from office,» Blackburn said in a statement.

She added that Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) «cannot sit in judgment of the very President they seek to replace.»

There is virtually no chance that the Dems would do such a thing although the idea that the conniving Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment delay was undertaken to hurt Bernie’s 2020 hopes by keeping him off the campaign trail is gaining traction with his supporters.

According to Senator Blackburn’s statement:

Tomorrow, one hundred United States Senators will be sworn in to serve in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Four of those Senators must recuse themselves for their unparalleled political interest in seeing this President removed from office.

These four Democrats, Senators Bennet, Klobuchar, Sanders, and Warren, cannot sit in judgment of the very President they seek to replace. To participate in this trial would be a failure of the oath they took to be an ‘impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws’. Their presidential ambitions prohibit their ability to view this trial through an objective lens.

Following weeks of delays by Pelosi, in a cheerful ceremony on Wednesday, the articles of impeachment were signed off and in a staged spectacle for the media, she and her managers paraded across the Capitol to formally present the articles to the Senate.

On Thursday, senators and Chief Justice John Roberts will be sworn in with the trial expected to commence early next week and to last for a still undetermined period of time — perhaps long enough to keep Bernie out of Iowa and put a thumb on the scale for Joe Biden.

Barring any surprises from Mitt Romney and his pack of Never Trumpers, the trial isn’t likely to remove Trump from the 2020 equation although that may not be the case with Sanders who has now also become a target of the establishment.
