One of the viral moments and most talked about lines in last night’s debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence was when Harris repeatedly used the line “I’m speaking. I’m speaking.”
The moment has stirred debate on social media whether Harris showed confident strength or if she showed arrogance and was condescending.
Here is what some Harris and Pence supporters had to say about the line.
When Mike Pence interrupted Kamala Harris throughout #VPdebate, she would respond, “I’m speaking.”@majorcbs says, “I think many American women heard that and said, ‘I know what that feels like…I’m speaking and I should be allowed to speak'” https://t.co/K93TgPOv1W pic.twitter.com/UeF7iloUZd

“I’m speaking. I’M speaking.” I hope every little girl heard that. #VPDebate

One takeaway from tonight’s debate will be how many times a woman of color, always smiling pleasantly, has to tell a white man, “I’m speaking,” in order to STILL get less time than he gets. It is nauseating.

The “I’m speaking, *I’m* speaking” thing worked at first. Now it’s getting old.
